Rev Leland Bond-Upson

Minister

Reverend Leland Bond-Upson

Ministry

Rev. Leland Bond-Upson has been a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, graduating from Starr King School for the Ministry with a Masters in Divinity in 1976. He met his wife Deborah on their first day in seminary.  They raised their four delightful children in northern California, continuing rewarding work leading education centers originally meant just to finance grad school, and used their position to advance the careers of hundreds of underrepresented minorities. In 2008 Leland returned to the parish ministry serving the Petaluma UU Congregation as a regular preacher, then embarking on serving churches as Interim Minister in Honolulu,HI, Fayetteville, AR, Bellingham, WA, Santa Barbara.,CA, Vancouver,WA, and Charlotte, NC.

Leland and Deborah put down roots in Hawai’i during his interim ministry there in 2010-11. Deborah keeps their home in Hawai’i while active in education equity politics, consulting to education organizations, writing, painting and sculpting. He spends his vacation time at home in Hawai’i and is delighted to be in Elgin working with this welcoming congregation.

His wife and children, social justice, history—especially the history of religious tolerance, politics, poetry, education, film, and art—are his major interests. Visit his website: lbuuu.org to see some of his writing, favorite videos, and personal history.

Rev. Leland began his service with us on Wednesday, January 9, 2018. He’s always happy to connect with congregants. He can be reached at minister@uuce.org or (224) 276-9755.

Church Administrator

Sheena John

Administration and Operations

Sheena John has been a member of UUCE since 1998. In 2014 she joined the staff as the part-time Church Administrator.

Not a stranger to administrative work, Sheena has run her own landscape design business since 1992. She’s keen to help UUCE maneuver and take advantage of the many changes that have taken place in electronic communications, social media and record keeping.

Together with the routine activities of taking care of the church, she believes UUCE’s vibrant and growing community will benefit from a centralized administrative hub where information can be collected, stored and provide a strong networking and communication resource for the church community.

Sheena may be reached at: administrator@uuce.org or (847) 888-0668.
